Which Vehicles Can Get a Starlight Headliner? (Full Compatibility Guide)

Almost any vehicle with a removable headliner panel can get a fibre optic starlight headliner — and that covers about 95% of cars, SUVs, trucks, and vans on the road today. The handful of exceptions usually come down to molded one-piece headliners, structural foam-bonded panels, or vehicles where the headliner is fused to the airbag system. Here's a model-by-model breakdown of what works, what's straightforward, and the few cases that need a different approach.
Sedans and coupes
Honda Civic, Accord, Toyota Camry, Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, Kia Forte, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class, Audi A4 — all standard installs. Most sedans have a fabric-wrapped foam headliner with removable trim, and the fibre install is one of the easier configurations. Expect a 1-day turnaround on most sedans for a 600–900 star package.
SUVs and crossovers
RAV4, CR-V, Highlander, Pilot, Tahoe, Suburban, Escalade, Range Rover, Audi Q5/Q7, BMW X3/X5 — all installable. Larger SUVs have more headliner area to cover, so they're well-suited to high-density 1,200+ star builds. Watch for sunroof and panoramic roof openings (Tahoe, Suburban, Escalade panoramic) — these reduce the available star area but also pair beautifully with sunroof lighting strips.
Trucks (half-ton and HD)
F-150, F-250, F-350, Silverado, Sierra, RAM 1500/2500/3500, Tundra, Titan — all installable. Crew-cab and SuperCrew trucks have the largest installable area and look stunning with a full 1,500+ star sky. Single-cab and extended-cab trucks have a smaller headliner; we usually recommend a denser star pattern (600–900 stars) to keep visual impact high.
Tesla and EVs
Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X — all installable, with one caveat: Model 3 and Model Y use a glass roof with no traditional headliner. For those, we install a custom fabric panel underneath the glass with the fibre array embedded, mounted with hidden brackets. Model S and Model X with the standard fabric headliner are conventional installs. Other EVs (Ioniq 5, EV6, Lightning, Rivian) follow the same logic — fabric headliner means standard install; full glass roof means custom panel.
Vans, RVs, and limos
Sprinter, Transit, Promaster, Sienna, Odyssey, Pacifica, limousines — these are some of the best canvases for a starlight install because the headliner is large, flat, and easily removed. Cargo vans and van conversions often get massive 2,000+ star installs with multiple LED engines and zone control.
What doesn't work
A small number of vehicles have headliners that can't be removed without destroying them: some convertibles with cloth tops, certain older luxury vehicles with foam-bonded headliners, and a few vehicles where the headliner is structurally bonded to the roof. We'll always inspect your vehicle before quoting and tell you up front if a clean install isn't possible. In rare cases we can fabricate a custom drop-down panel as an alternative.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you install in a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y?
Yes — we install a custom fabric panel mounted under the glass roof with the fibre array embedded. It looks factory and doesn't affect the glass or the heating element.
Does it work on convertibles?
Convertibles with hardtops yes. Soft-top convertibles depend on whether there's a fabric headliner above the soft top — we'd need to inspect the vehicle to confirm.
Will it work on my older car?
Most vehicles from 1995 onward have a removable foam headliner that works for a starlight install. Older classics often have leather or vinyl headliners stretched over bows — those usually need a custom panel built.
Can you install in a motorcycle helmet or boat?
We focus on automotive installs, but yes — the same fibre optic technique works on any fabric ceiling. Boats and RVs are a common request and follow the same process.
