Alberta's rules are not the same as British Columbia's or the ones you see in American build videos, so a film that looks great on a Texas truck can put an Alberta driver in front of a tint measurement at inspection. Front side windows: the strict one
Alberta's Vehicle Equipment Regulation does not allow aftermarket film on the windows beside the driver that reduces the driver's view out or a police officer's view in. In practice that means the two front doors are the windows officers look at first, and a dark limo film there is the fastest way to get a notice. If you want heat rejection up front without the legal exposure, a high performance clear or very light ceramic film is the right call: it blocks infrared and UV without visibly darkening the glass.
Rear side windows and the back glass
Behind the driver you have far more freedom. Rear side windows and the rear windshield can be tinted dark, as long as the vehicle keeps working side mirrors on both sides. That is why the classic Alberta setup is dark rear glass with a light or clear film up front. On SUVs and trucks this reads as a full blackout look from the outside while staying compliant where it matters.
The windshield strip
A tint strip along the top of the windshield is allowed as a sun shade band. Keep it to the top portion of the glass so it never enters the swept area you actually drive through. We line ours up with the factory shade band or the top of the mirror housing, which keeps it clean and consistent.
Fines, inspections and insurance
Non compliant tint is an equipment offence. The practical risks are a ticket, an order to remove the film, and a failed out of province or commercial inspection. Removal is not free either: cheap dyed films bake onto the glass and can damage rear defroster lines when they are stripped. Getting it right the first time is cheaper than paying twice.
